Limit hiring to one team member per day part each week
  1. Hire two new team members for day shift and night shift within any one week: 1 for frontline, 1 for backline
  2. New trainee should get the entire focus of training during their first week
General Manager completes day one orientation
  1. GM plans, schedules and conducts all day one orientations
  2. GM is prepared and not distracted during orientation
  3. New trainee is set up for success with a good plan and a thorough understanding of what’s expected
  4. Trainee is set up on learning center
  5. Trainee is taught how to use learning center

Keep all material on hand and organized

Develop a training plan and schedule training for week one
  1. Use the section on the weekly schedule for trainees until certified in one area
  2. Always schedule the first 2 days of training during off peak times
  3. Always ensure the trainee understands the plan

  1. Make sure the training plan includes time for reading training material
  2. Test understanding to make sure trainee is comprehending material
Make learning fun
  1. Let trainee know from the beginning that learning will be fun
  2. Never allow trainee to become frustrated or overwhelmed
  3. Praise progress and not just the end result
  4. Celebrate a certification
Praise progress and redirect mistakes
  1. Always look for things about the trainee’s performance to praise
  2. When mistakes occur, redirect efforts back towards the correct performance
  3. Be sure to explain why we do things the way we do
Take time to review
  1. Be sure to take time at the end of each shift to review the training
  2. Focus on at least 3 positive things you observed the trainee doing
  3. Set 3 goals for the next shift. These will be areas the trainee needs to improve
Keep a positive atmosphere
  1. Make sure that no negative people attempt to discourage the new trainee
  2. When having the trainee work with others, make sure they are positive and set a good example by doing things correctly
